Current Programs

MPCCC’s mission is to advance cancer care by integrating our network of partners in discovery, translational and clinical research, develop accessible platforms in order to support future patient-centred research and clinical care; and advance clinical expertise and experience through inter disciplinary collaborations. Current Programs and Future Opportunities within the MPCCC Precision Cancer Plan have been categorised under five main themes.

Research Partnerships

The MPCCC is a strategic alliance of health service and research organisations working in partnership to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. Collectively, MPCCC partners care for over 19,000 cancer patients across Victoria each year, with around 80,000 episodes of care.

The MPCCC works collaboratively with state-wide partners to support a co-ordinated Victorian approach to shared priorities and is actively expanding its collaborative efforts with other National and International Oncology groups to establish well-connected and well-informed networks.

The Monash Health Department of Oncology provides more than 1.5 million residents of southern Melbourne with access to world leading cancer treatment within the Monash Health service.

The Alfred provides high-quality cancer treatment programs, translational research, and surgical and medical expertise, as well as other key support services such as clinical care and emergency medicine.

As one of the largest private providers, Cabrini are leaders in comprehensive cancer care. They offer rapid access to experienced specialists and the full spectrum of cancer services. From early diagnosis to treatment and supportive care.

Peninsula Health

Peninsula Health

Peninsula Health is the only public healthcare facility on the Mornington Peninsula with acute services provided at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals. Led by Dr Zee Wan Wong, Head of Oncology, and Dr Trish Walker, Head of Haematology, the Unit has a dedicated team of Haematologists and Oncologists, who provide services for early cancer detection and diagnosis, various cancer treatment modalities including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy through referral to Frankston and Peninsula Private Hospitals.

Eastern Health

Eastern Health

The Eastern Health oncology clinic provides chemotherapy, palliative aspects of care, and for diagnostic appraisal of new patients who are referred with a suspicion or prior diagnosis of malignancy. The clinics are tumour stream specific, encompassing general oncology including solid tumours and haematological malignancies.

Scientists working in the Centre undertake basic research into the molecular mechanisms underlying the development, growth and metastasis of tumours, as well as the relationship between the innate immune system and cancer. The discovery and development of novel therapies for the treatment of cancers is also an important aspect of the team’s work.

LaTrobe Regional Hospital

LaTrobe Regional Hospital

Patients can access arrange of services and programs at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre based at LRH. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are delivered on site. If travelling to Traralgon for treatment, affordable motel-style accommodation is available just around the corner from the Cancer Care Centre at Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

Epworth

Epworth

Epworth offers comprehensive cancer services. This includes specialist wards, day oncology facilities, radiation oncology and palliative care. More than 40 Epworth accredited oncologists, surgical oncologists and radiation oncologists practise at Epworth.

MPCCC has partnered with Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) to host MPCCC - BDI Precision Cancer Seminars to communicate latest research outcomes in Precision Oncology. MPCCC-BDI Precision Cancer Workshops is another program run in partnership with BDI, which provides cancer workforce training within the MPCCC partner organisations.

MPCCC engages with VCCC Alliance on a number of collaborative initiatives across these two consortiums to improve cancer care for patients in Victoria. MPCCC is actively expanding its collaborative efforts with other National and International Oncology groups to establish well-connected and well-informed networks.
