MPCCC Collaboration Dinner: Strengthening Partnerships for Better Cancer Care
On 21 February 2025, the Monash Partners Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (MPCCC) hosted a collaboration dinner, bringing together key Victorian healthcare stakeholders.
Throughout the evening, the discussion highlighted the efficiency, high value, and innovation of the MPCCC collaboration model.
With new cancer treatments emerging rapidly, individual health services face challenges in implementation. This is where MPCCC plays a crucial role. As a strategic alliance of health services and research organisations, MPCCC ensures that cutting-edge treatments are accessible, coordinated, and distributed across the Victorian healthcare system.
MPCCC Co-director Mark Shackleton said that MPCCC’s unique structure enables eight major Victorian health services to work together in a way that maximises collective impact, ensuring that health services across our state are more connected, efficient, and accessible in delivering cancer care.
“MPCCC’s decentralised model bridges the gap between metropolitan, outer-metro, and regional health services, enhancing access and equity. This approach aligns with the Victorian Government’s goals of a more connected healthcare system that provides equitable access to cancer care statewide.”
MPCCC Co-director Melissa Southey said the MPCCC collaboration dinner reaffirmed the consortium’s vital role in shaping the future of cancer care in Victoria. She said, “through strategic partnerships and innovative models, we are expanding the network with national and international oncology groups to enhance research, innovation, and patient care.”
“By working together, we achieve far more than we could individually. MPCCC stands as a leading example of how effective collaboration can transform outcomes for all those affected by cancer,” explained Professor Southey.
The combined catchment area of the MPCCC’ represents 43 per cent of Victoria’s population and includes many of the state’s major population growth corridors. Each year, approximately 20,000 cancer patients are treated at MPCCC’s partner health services. By 2031, the population in regions currently served by these partners is expected to grow to over 3.5 million.
